If you’ve stumbled upon an odd glitch in Destiny 2 lately, there’s no need to be concerned. Bungie has decided not to fix it, and intentionally so.
Video games stand out from other forms of media in various ways, and bugs and glitches are a significant part of that distinction. You might liken this to the unpredictability of live theater, where things can occasionally go awry, but it’s not quite the same due to the complex nature of video game coding. Sometimes, developers even embrace these quirks. Remember in Celeste, when players found tiny gaps through spike walls they could dash through? The developers added a custom animation to highlight your skills when pulling off that trick—pretty cool, right? Although Bungie hasn’t added anything extra like that for Destiny 2’s latest bug, they’re definitely rolling with it.
After the launch of Heresy, some observant players realized that a few exotic glaive weapons, including the Edge of Intent, the Edge of Concurrence, and the Edge of Action, which were originally tailored for specific classes, could suddenly be wielded by any class. Bungie’s response? They’ve seen so much excitement over this newfound flexibility that they’re choosing to leave it as is, as noted in a recent blog post.
Initially, Bungie’s instinct was to patch up the issue to maintain the game’s distinct class-based mechanics, as the removal of class restrictions felt a bit chaotic. For example, spotting a Warlock or a Hunter conjuring up a mini-bubble or watching a Titan dash around like a ninja seemed out of place. However, after some internal debates, the team decided to let this bug become a celebrated feature. It’s a rare occurrence but a fun one!
That said, Bungie does caution that some animations may look odd, as these combinations weren’t originally intended to exist. Interestingly, they’ve observed that class-based glaive options open up some intriguing new ways to craft character builds. So, they’ll be keeping a close watch on how these glaives perform across different classes moving forward.
Bungie also made sure to clarify that they won’t always transform weird bugs into features. While this one feels right for the game, it doesn’t mean every unexpected glitch will get the same treatment. Yet, who knows? You might still hold onto a shred of hope the next time a quirky bug pops up!
