In Avowed, you’ll hit a ceiling at a certain level, meaning you can’t unlock every single ability simultaneously. As you progress and level up, you’re rewarded with an ability point which you can use to enhance your skills or introduce a new one. Attribute points come with each level until level 10, after which they’re granted every other level and can be invested in boosting your character’s stats. However, the game restrains you from becoming an all-powerful whirlwind-creating, meteor-showering dynamo with a set level cap.
So, what is this level cap in Avowed, and how does it affect your journey? Let’s dive in.
The highest level you can achieve in Avowed is level 30. According to Game8, reaching this peak requires accumulating 449,500 experience points. To check how far you’ve come on this journey, you simply need to open the “Character” menu and glance at the experience section showcased in the header.
While the existence of a level cap might seem limiting, reaching it is a feat within itself. You’ll have to pretty much immerse yourself in everything Avowed offers — from side quests to gathering collectibles — to get close. On my initial run, I was thorough, completing all quests, finding each treasure map and god totem, and tackling every item on the sidebar checklist. Despite all that dedication, I only reached level 28 in the last area of the game.
Looking at other experiences, a reviewer at Polygon wrapped up the game at level 23, sticking mostly to the main storyline. Meanwhile, another writer from Polygon, who focused heavily on side quests and extra content, was in the second-to-last area at level 24 at the time of writing.
For the typical player, completing Avowed below level 30 is the norm. Even those who do manage to hit the top level will only experience any new-found abilities and attributes marginally before reaching the game’s conclusion.
At the 30th level, should you choose to respec, you’ll find yourself with 29 ability points and 27 attribute points to assign. Depending on the decisions you’ve made throughout the game, particularly regarding accepting or denying the Voice’s power, you might have even more points at your disposal. Your companions max out with eight ability points across their four abilities, but you’ll acquire all these points before hitting level 30 anyway.
