As excitement fills the air with the recent stream and unexpected release of The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remake, some fans, particularly the veterans at our office, can’t contain their joy. But for those of us dreaming of what lies ahead, there’s a glimmer of hope: Todd Howard has given us a nod that The Elder Scrolls 6 is, in fact, still on the radar! And get this, he’s confirmed the team is knee-deep in its development.
Now, right before diving into all the juicy details of the Oblivion Remaster extravaganza, Howard casually dropped this little gem: “obviously we’re working on the 6th chapter here.” Just hearing that is music to our ears. It feels monumental—considering the last piece of solid info we had was back in March 2024 when Bethesda let slip that early builds had hit the test phase. They even teased us, saying the game was indeed fun. Well, that’s a relief!
Looking back, the buzz really sparked with a former Skyrim designer’s comment in October 2023. They warned us not to hold our breath for news until about six months before the game hits the shelves. And just a month earlier, Phil Spencer had optimistically posited that ES6 might launch within five years. At the time, it seemed like a long shot, but here we are, nearly two years down the road, and the info faucet’s been essentially dry.
If we focus on tangible updates from Bethesda themselves, there’s been a noticeable silence. They did, however, break the quietude in August 2023, announcing that development was officially underway—five years after the grand reveal at E3. It has me wondering, was that announcement a touch premature? I’ll bet I’m not the only one thinking that!
All jokes and sarcasm aside, it truly is reassuring to catch a whiff of progress on Elder Scrolls 6. It feels like ages since its initial announcement—back when I was still in school. Now, I’m juggling adulthood, complete with paying bills and swiping through dating apps. Bethesda has held its ground as a leading name in the RPG sphere, and I’ve no doubt they’ll deliver something fantastic. But could they at least toss us a bit of concept art or a teaser? Honestly, Liam Neeson had more tangible evidence of his daughter’s existence in Taken than we have about this game.
How do you feel about all this? Drop a comment here and speculate with us on the mountainous amount of student debt I might accumulate by the time Elder Scrolls 6 finally arrives!
