If you’re not thrilled with the small screens on current handheld devices, Tencent has something that might catch your interest. According to a report by Videocardz, Tencent is set to introduce a new handheld device that’s almost like a portable console: the Sunday Dragon 3D One. This device is powered by an Intel Lunar Lake CPU and features a sizeable 11-inch screen, offering a more immersive gaming experience—if you’re up for holding such a sizable gadget.
The 3D One comes equipped with the Core Ultra 7 258V, which includes four P-Cores (Lion Cove), four E-Cores (Skymont), and the Arc 140V integrated GPU featuring eight Xe2 cores. Through extensive testing, we’ve found Intel’s latest Lunar Lake processors to be on par with AMD’s Strix Point (Ryzen AI 300 APUs) in terms of gaming prowess. It boasts 32GB of LPDDR5X-8533 RAM, providing enough power for contemporary tasks, though it’s worth noting that this memory is soldered directly onto the CPU and can’t be upgraded. The device also features a “high-speed” 1TB SSD, which you should be able to upgrade if you’re looking for more speed or space.
Interestingly, if it arrives sometime this year, the 3D One could be the first Lunar Lake-powered handheld on the market—beating MSI’s Claw 8 AI+, which is slated for early 2025. However, as Videocardz mentions, the 3D One is currently just a prototype. The device’s expansive 11-inch 2560×1440 display with a 120Hz refresh rate might even substitute for a laptop, given its size. Interestingly, while GPD is developing their Pocket 4 mini-laptops that max out at 8.8 inches, Tencent’s entrant promises eyes-on real-time eye-tracking technology for an autostereoscopic (glasses-free 3D) experience. The brand has fine-tuned several games like Path of Exile, Blade & Soul, and Arena Breakout: Infinite to enhance this feature.
The built-in controllers use Hall Effect joysticks, linear triggers, and have two programmable buttons on the back. These controllers are detachable, allowing for the use of third-party alternatives—provided they fit the unique dimensions of the 3D One. The device also supports 100W fast charging; however, details about the battery’s capacity remain vague.
The 3D One’s design is quite unconventional. Most handheld enthusiasts expect ergonomic designs that enable hours of comfortable gaming. However, smaller screens do fall short when it comes to showcasing a game’s vivid details and splendor. Since this device is still a prototype, it’s likely to have limited availability, both geographically and due to its niche appeal.
Keep an eye out—this could be the start of a new trend in portable gaming; just be prepared for an experience that’s a bit outside the norm.
