It’s been almost four years since we saw the launch of Resident Evil Village on PS5 and PS4. While Capcom has given us some other titles in the series, like Resident Evil Re:Verse and the remake of Resident Evil 4, fans are still eagerly awaiting the announcement of the next main game.
It looks like our patience might soon be rewarded. If a well-known leaker is to be believed, we could get our first glimpse of Resident Evil 9 this year.
According to Dusk Golem, a reputable source for horror game leaks, Resident Evil 9 is on the horizon and is expected to be unveiled before the year ends. The delay in revealing the game might have something to do with the ambitious scope of the project. It’s rumored to be a “big reinvention of the series,” drawing comparisons to the groundbreaking changes we saw with Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7.
Dusk Golem took to Twitter to share, “The thing I think people will realize when RE9 is revealed is the reason this game is taking so long is because it’s like a big reinvention of the series, to the same level as RE4 & RE7. It’s not going to play just like RE7/RE8 or the Remakes, it’s trying new things & very ambitious. It will almost definitely be revealed this year, so just hold tight.”
The specifics surrounding Resident Evil 9 are still mostly shrouded in mystery, with a lot of information floating around as mere speculation. One prominent rumor hints that the upcoming installment may feature an open-world setting.
What we do know for sure is that Koshi Nakanishi, the mind behind Resident Evil 7, is at the helm for this new chapter. During last year’s Capcom Next showcase, Nakanishi hinted at what’s to come, saying, “We’re making a new Resident Evil. It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]. But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can’t share any details just yet, but I hope you’re excited for the day I can.”
As the anticipation builds, fans are holding their breath for more details to emerge, hoping that Resident Evil 9 delivers another memorable experience in the iconic series.
