It looks like we’ve got another game biting the dust—this time, it’s Project G.G. from PlatinumGames, a title reminiscent of Ultra Man but never really had much revealed about it.
Do you even remember Project G.G.? Honestly, if you don’t, I wouldn’t hold it against you. It made its debut back in 2020, but since then, nothing more has been shown. Fast forward to the end of 2023, and Hideki Kamiya—the game’s director and co-founder of PlatinumGames—left the studio. Naturally, this raised immediate concerns about whether the game would ever see the light of day. Now, it seems almost certain it won’t. If you visit the section on PlatinumGames’ website that showcases all the games they’ve developed, you’ll spot ten titles, including popular series like Bayonetta, Nier: Automata, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and even the newly announced Ninja Gaiden 4.
But here’s the kicker: A glance at the Wayback Machine reveals that the site used to showcase 22 games. These included licensed hits like Transformers: Devastation, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan, and The Legend of Korra, as well as in-house projects like Madworld and the unfortunate flop, Babylon’s Fall. These games still have their own dedicated pages, although they’re missing from the current list on the website. Project G.G. was part of that original lineup, but now it doesn’t even have its own page anymore; its URL just sends you to the homepage of PlatinumGames.
This pretty much confirms that the game is dead and buried. It’s not much of a shock, especially since Kamiya has been away from the studio for over a year now. Things have been somewhat hazy regarding what PlatinumGames has been up to lately, especially with a noticeable shift in staff. However, with the upcoming Ninja Gaiden title, it looks like the studio isn’t shutting its doors just yet.
