Phasmophobia has been all the rage on Twitch since it captured the imagination of gamers back in 2020. The creators over at Kinetic Games recently announced that they’ve sold over 22 million copies, a testament to the game’s enduring appeal. For 2025, they’ve laid out an ambitious development roadmap, aiming to refresh the somewhat bland player character models at the heart of their ghost-hunting experience. Here’s a rundown of what’s on the horizon, based on the enlightening news release from Monday.
Kicking things off, we have the Chronicle update, the first significant patch of the year for Phasmophobia. According to a developer blog post, this update will completely revamp how players collect evidence. Now, spectral temperature changes and creepy sounds won’t just be briefly noted—they’ll be archived for later reference. To facilitate this, the Photos tab is being transformed into a Media tab. It’s a change that should prove invaluable during those chaotic sessions where one of your buddies might be busy screaming, arguing, or completely freaking out in the midst of a nasty haunting.
What’s more, Kinetic Games is adding depth to data collection. Whenever you first capture a type of media, it’ll be tagged as Unique, delivering hefty rewards upon contract completion. But snap the same thing again, and you’ll get significantly less. This nudge encourages players to explore different tools, broadening their arsenal of evidence and mixing things up during investigations.
Following the Chronicle update, the spotlight is on the Player Character Overhaul. As it stands, players are limited to a select few avatars, none of which exude too much character. The future, however, holds promise for customization—based on a roadmap teaser showing a character flaunting different shirts. Could this mean players will get to mix and match outfits between missions? That would be a refreshing shift from the current monotony of plain button-down shirts and altogether forgettable attire.
Looking further into the year, Kinetic Games has more in store. They’re planning to roll out a new map, this one a more compact addition akin to the existing houses in the game. Updates are also on the cards for existing maps, with major improvements planned for the Bleasdale and Grafton Farmhouses, including redesigned layouts and fresh rooms for ghosts to lurk. Exciting hints about special Easter and Halloween updates have been dropped as well. And yes, they’ve even teased features slated for 2026, including something intriguingly named “Horror 2.0,” which certainly has my curiosity piqued.
