NVIDIA and AMD seem to be lining up to release their more affordable graphics cards this May, as they both vie for the top spot in the mainstream GPU market.
NVIDIA & AMD Poised to Capture Mid-Range GPU Market with RTX 5060 & RX 9060 XT
For those looking at budget-friendly GPUs, choices have been pretty limited lately. Inventory shortages, especially for NVIDIA’s latest generation, have driven prices way above their MSRPs. On the AMD side, demand for the RX 9070 series has also pushed prices up, making MSRP deals rare. However, recent reports from Benchlife suggest that both companies are readying new options to cater to the mainstream segment, with launches expected as soon as next month.
Let’s start with NVIDIA, or Team Green. They’re rumored to be releasing the GeForce RTX 5060 by May 19. Here’s what we know about its specs: it will feature an 8 GB GDDR7 VRAM setup running at 28 Gbps via a 128-bit memory bus. Importantly, the RTX 5060 is set to consume more power — up 35W in TDP compared to the RTX 4060. Here’s a breakdown of how it stacks up against its predecessor:
- 25% More CUDA Cores
- Same Memory Capacity
- Speedier GDDR7 Memory (28 Gbps)
- 64% Increase in Bandwidth
- 30% Higher Power Rating
Now, over at AMD, the Radeon RX 9060 XT is expected to make its debut on May 21 at Computex, with retail availability possibly extending into June. This GPU will feature the Navi 44 die on a 128-bit bus and will be available in both 8GB and 16GB configurations, much like NVIDIA’s RTX 5060 Ti. The RX 9060 XT is reported to have 2,048 Stream Processors — just half of what the RX 9070 XT offers — with game clocks set at 2620 MHz and boost clocks reaching 3230 MHz. So, if you’re into 1080p or 2K gaming, it should deliver quite the experience.
We’ll be bringing you live coverage of the NVIDIA and AMD GPU rollouts from the Computex 2025 show floor. If there’s an opportunity, we’ll also share some early glimpses. The race in the mid-range GPU segment is heating up, and May could be pivotal.
