Over the past week, a series of seemingly credible leaks have shed light on what might be the final design of the Nintendo Switch 2. Things really heated up when Dbrand, known for their protective tech accessories, surprised everyone by releasing a detailed 3D rendering of the Nintendo Switch 2. Interestingly, this model included a revamped version of Dbrand’s Killswitch carrying case, adapted specifically for the Switch 2. In a conversation with The Verge, Dbrand CEO Adam Ijaz mentioned that their designers worked with the actual dimensions of the Switch 2. This was made possible through a 3D scan of the real hardware, revealing measurements of around 270mm in width with Joy-Cons attached (200mm without), 116mm in height, and 14mm in thickness.
From what these leaks suggest, the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to come with an impressive 8-inch display—a step up from the 7.2-inch screen of the Switch OLED and the 6.2-inch screen of the original Switch. A new button, presumably for capturing, appears on the right Joy-Con. Additionally, the design features magnetically detachable Joy-Con controllers with a more pronounced curve, USB-C ports at both the top and bottom, and a sturdy U-shaped kickstand reminiscent of the Switch OLED’s improved stand.
Looking ahead, this new iteration of the Switch is expected to launch sometime in the first few months of 2025. The design seems to be a significant evolution from what we saw with the Switch OLED, although speculation suggests it will use a 1080p IPS LCD screen instead of OLED, marking a return to LCD but hopefully with higher quality.
The Dbrand Killswitch case, designed for the Switch 2, takes into account its detachable Joy-Cons, which means it lacks the full-body enclosures typical of previous Killswitch cases for devices like the Steam Deck. Instead, it comes in separate pieces that come together with a striking teal bungee cord. Dbrand has built a solid reputation in the market, so there’s every reason to believe this case will be a hit once released.
For those who are eager for an unmodified look at the Switch 2 itself, rest assured that more insights are likely just around the corner. While we don’t have pictures of the untouched console yet, a 3D-printed prototype seen by the SwitchUp YouTube channel earlier in the week aligns with the specs Dbrand shared, giving us a fair idea of its potential look and feel.
All these leaks hint at an imminent announcement for the Nintendo Switch 2, and a release date reveal seems almost unavoidable at this point. Earlier statements suggested a release before the close of 2024, with Nintendo aiming for a full reveal by March 2025. With just a few months left, it’s no wonder companies like Dbrand are already preparing for the hype and demand surrounding Nintendo’s next big handheld hybrid system.
