And just like that, an era of enjoying Nintendo Switch Online without spending a dime has come to an end.
In the realm of popular features, one is bowing out right after the much-anticipated re-release of Xenoblade Chronicles X, while another won’t make the transition to the upcoming Switch 2.
Nintendo recently shared that the My Nintendo Gold program is set to wrap up on March 25, right after midnight ET. This initiative had been a hit, letting players earn 1% of the value of Nintendo’s own physical releases during their first year in the form of eShop credit, and a cool 5% back on all eShop purchases. However, there’s a bit of a grace period: physical games released between March 25, 2024, and the program’s expiration will still be eligible. So, titles spanning from Endless Ocean: Luminous to Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition are in the clear. Unfortunately, newcomers like Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond won’t make the cut.
On another front, there’s news about the Switch Online Vouchers. Nintendo updated the support page, confirming that these vouchers won’t be compatible with the Switch 2 games. For those unfamiliar, subscribers could snag a pair of these vouchers for $99 in the US, or equivalent, and redeem them for Nintendo’s first-party releases. The good news? They’re still valid for upcoming titles on the original Switch, such as Legends Z-A and Prime 4.
