The past few weeks have been particularly challenging for Strategist players in Marvel Rivals. Playing a healer is tough enough, but it’s a real headache when a Spider-Man player drops in from nowhere and sends you flying back to respawn. In a meta where speed equals power, Strategists have been working overtime just to stay in the game. Thankfully, it looks like some relief is on the horizon with the upcoming mid-season patch.
In a Dev Talk post last Friday, NetEase addressed the ongoing support crisis that’s been present since the start of Season 2. Heroes with exceptional mobility, like Iron Fist, have been dominating this season, leaving Strategists under a lot of pressure. They need to keep a close eye on teammates’ health, smartly use their abilities, and constantly be aware of their positioning on the map, as noted by NetEase.
To ease this burden, NetEase plans to boost the damage output for support characters. This adjustment is aimed at enhancing their threat level, which should make team compositions more versatile. Additionally, characters like Groot and Captain America will be made easier to defeat, and the notorious Spider-Man uppercut will become trickier to land.
The patch, which is anticipated in early May, will also see the introduction of Ultron to the game. From what’s been shown in official footage, he will be classified as a Strategist.
Given the frequency of new hero additions to the game, updates like this may be crucial for preserving balance. NetEase expressed a desire to approach balancing cautiously, opting for smaller adjustments to avoid drastic shifts. Empowering support players to retaliate is a promising move that shouldn’t completely spoil the experience for those players who enjoy hunting them down.
