EA has exciting news for all Sims enthusiasts: they’re bringing back The Sims and The Sims 2, complete with various expansion packs, just in time to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary!
The Sims Legacy Collection is gearing up to delight fans with the original game, along with the much-loved expansions like Livin’ Large, House Party, Hot Date, Vacation, Unleashed, Superstar, and Makin’ Magic. Plus, for a bit of a modern twist, it includes The Sims 4’s Throwback Fit Kit.
For those nostalgic about The Sims 2, the Legacy Collection won’t disappoint. It offers The Sims 2 itself, paired with a lineup of expansion packs such as University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Bon Voyage, Seasons, FreeTime, and Apartment Life. You’ll also find an array of stuff packs including Holiday Party, Family Fun, Glamour Life, and a few more essentials like Kitchen & Bath Interior Design and Mansion & Garden. Not to mention, they’ve thrown in The Sims 4: Grunge Revival for good measure.
However, fans of the iconic IKEA Home Stuff pack might be a tad disappointed, as it didn’t make the cut into The Sims 2 bundle this time. Both legacy collections are conveniently bundled together as The Sims: 25th Birthday Bundle for those keen to relive their favorite Sims memories.
Back in 2000, we first saw the original Sims hit the shelves, and The Sims 2 arrived a few years later in 2004. While it’s true the first game has never seen a rerelease until now, EA did present The Sims 2 packs as The Ultimate Collection on Origin from 2014 to 2018. If you were savvy back then, you might’ve scored it for free by proving ownership of the original discs—something that involved some creative phone conversations, as I recall from my college days.
Trying to play these older Sims games on modern computers has been quite a challenge lately. But with these rereleases, there’s hope they’ll seamlessly run on Windows 10 and 11, sparing players from those notorious black boxes and pink soup graphical glitches. Here’s to stress-free gaming and a wave of nostalgia!
