There’s been a lot of discussion lately, but worry not: Hollow Knight: Silksong is indeed alive and well. Matthew Griffin, the guy you can thank for spreading the word through Team Cherry’s marketing channels, cleared the air last Friday on social media platform X, affirming, “Yes, the game is real, progressing and will release.”
This reassurance came after Griffin replied to an X user who was curious about the game’s development status, especially after prominent Hollow Knight speedrunner fireb0rn squashed a budding conspiracy in the fandom. Some fans had been speculating, rather optimistically, that a release date might be announced soon. Their theory stemmed from observing that developer William Pellen had updated his alternate account’s profile picture, hinting at “something big.” Alas, despite their hopes, nothing earth-shattering was in the works.
Fans find themselves in the familiar cycle of waking each day, fingers crossed for news about this eagerly awaited follow-up to the 2017 smash hit. Since its 2019 announcement, the Silksong community has been relentlessly hunting for any sign of its impending arrival. Their anticipation has almost become a running joke at this point. Each major game reveal stirs a whirlwind of hope that Silksong will somehow make an unexpected appearance. The fervor in the game’s subreddit is reminiscent of that famous It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia scene where Charlie Day obsessively deciphers a wall full of notes. Honestly, the release of the game might finally give these fervent fans a well-deserved break.
We’re all in this waiting game, but hopefully not for much longer. The last we heard was that Silksong aimed for a 2023 release date, but unfortunately, that’s been pushed to 2024. While it didn’t hit the expected timeline, the good news is the game is definitely on its way. As we look forward, keep an eye out for a surge of excitement in April. That’s when the first Switch 2 Nintendo Direct presentation is expected, which might just bring some updates. And if that doesn’t pan out, Summer Games Fest could be our next hope for a breakthrough announcement.
