Nacon and Midgar Studio have exciting news for JRPG fans: they’ve announced Edge of Memories, an anticipated sequel set in the same world as Edge of Eternity. With a stellar team behind its creation, including talents like Final Fantasy XV’s combat designer Mitsuru Yokoyama and NieR’s writer Sawako Natori, the buzz is already building. The game is scheduled to launch in Fall 2025, gracing platforms like PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
The project is spearheaded by Midgar Studio, the same creative force that brought us Edge of Eternity. Released in 2021, Edge of Eternity is known for its “French touch JRPG” vibe, merging familiar elements like turn-based battles inspired by classics such as Final Fantasy. The game boasts a soundtrack by the renowned Yasunori Mitsuda, beloved for his work on masterpieces like Chrono Trigger and Xenogears. Though it had mixed reviews initially, its charm and heartfelt nods to traditional JRPGs have made it a gem for enthusiasts.
Edge of Memories, however, is setting its sights on the distant land of Avaris, where a devastating plague named Corrosion has taken hold. Fans will be thrilled to learn that Yasunori Mitsuda is returning to compose the soundtrack. He is accompanied by Mariam Abounnasr, known for her work on Xenoblade Chronicles, and singer Emi Evans, who lent her enchanting vocals to NieR series.
