Eager to dive back into Resident Evil 6 on your current gaming console? If you weren’t before, you might be soon. Recent developments indicate you could be getting the chance.
Now, I’m not going to sugarcoat it—Resident Evil 6 doesn’t exactly hold the crown for the most adored installment of the survival horror saga. The series kind of veered off course with this one, favoring action over the tension-filled survival that originally defined it. But let’s be real—Resident Evil fans are a dedicated bunch, and there are undoubtedly some who are itching to relive that experience on their Xbox Series X or S. Their patience might just be rewarded because, according to a finding on the Entertainment Software Rating Board’s (ESRB) website spotted by VGC, the game has received a new rating specifically tailored for the Xbox Series consoles, both X and S.
The rating doesn’t spill any substantial secrets, mainly reiterating why the game earns its Mature 17+ label and humorously highlighting that “the word ‘f**k’ makes an appearance.” The noteworthy detail here is the specific mention of the Xbox Series platform. Originally, Resident Evil 6 landed on the Xbox 360 and PS3 back in 2012 and was subsequently ported to the Xbox One and PS4 in 2016 with enhanced graphics and all DLC included. It even made its way to the Nintendo Switch alongside Resident Evil 5 in 2019. This recent ESRB update doesn’t mention a PS5 release, but it wouldn’t be surprising if it’s in the cards. Ignoring a PS5 version, or a potential re-release of Resident Evil 5, would indeed be strange.
However, this news might leave some fans a little let down since it hints more at a remaster rather than the full-blown remakes other games in the series have enjoyed. Not much we can do except sit tight and see if Capcom has anything to reveal. Fingers crossed for an announcement soon!
