Objective: Confront Godzilla and make it out alive!
These days, Fortnite is sort of a mixed bag for me. Remember back in its heyday—the first year was a whirlwind of chaos, no bots in sight, as every match hurled gamers of all skill levels into a chaotic frenzy brimming with unexpected surprises, laughs, and the occasional crushing defeat. Now? It feels like that raw excitement has slipped away. It’s as if you’re soaking in a lukewarm bath now, where most adversaries are bots going through the motions, practically lining themselves up for you to pick off. The intriguing, enigmatic narrative vibe that used to invite players to piece together their own stories has mostly fizzled out. In its place, we have these MMORPG-like missions and overly chatty characters spelling out predictable game lore. To top it off, every week seems to bring a fresh batch of characters from well-known franchises, slowly erasing Fortnite’s unique touch and turning it into a kind of Ready Player One-like corporate playground.
Yet here’s the thing—I still find myself drawn in. Fortnite hasn’t completely lost its charm. There’s something so satisfying about how intuitively you can traverse its world—running, sliding, jumping, and climbing across its map feels fluid and engaging. On those particularly taxing days, I still catch myself diving into Fortnite, knocking out three quick daily quests for some easy XP. It’s a distraction I can easily lose myself in for a while. Plus, it’s hard not to get caught up in Fortnite’s flair for the dramatic—those grandiose events that few games can pull off quite the same way. Right now, for instance, we’re in one of those epic moments: Godzilla, the undisputed monster king, can randomly appear in matches. I saw a clip of this massive beast in action, and let me tell you—it looks mind-blowing. The sheer size and raw power captured perfectly. So, this weekend, I think I’m going to spend more time than usual in Fortnite. I want to feel that thrill from the perspective of a tiny human, frantically escaping something towering and genuinely terrifying. So, if by chance you’re on Fortnite this weekend, and you transform into Godzilla and spot me—just a speck darting around below—please, go easy on me. I have no beef with you! — Carolyn Petit
