LEGO’s journey over the decades is nothing short of remarkable. What began as a humble toy manufacturer in 1932 has transformed into a cultural phenomenon that goes beyond the iconic building blocks we all cherished growing up. Today, LEGO has carved out its own niche in the entertainment world, branching out into video games and merchandise, while establishing a solid foothold in the gaming industry.
One of the intriguing ventures by LEGO was a collaboration with Sony called LEGO Horizon Adventures. This partnership brought a playful twist to Sony’s renowned Horizon franchise. Imagining a LEGO version of Aloy in her futuristic, brick-constructed universe was an exciting idea. Unfortunately, the game didn’t captivate as many players as anticipated. This lackluster reception might raise doubts about future collaborations between the two companies, but it certainly shouldn’t. There exists a treasure trove of fantastic franchises that would seamlessly integrate into the LEGO universe.
When we look at potential partnerships, the relationship between LEGO and Sony still holds promise for a captivating crossover. There are several Sony properties just begging for the LEGO treatment. Among the prime contenders are Uncharted, God of War, Jak and Daxter, and Ratchet & Clank.
Let’s start with Uncharted. Picture Nathan Drake, the charismatic treasure hunter who has become Sony’s very own Indiana Jones. Despite nods to Indiana, Uncharted has carved out its own identity and success with five main titles released on various Sony consoles. Its blend of action-packed storytelling and engaging shooter mechanics makes it ripe for a LEGO adaptation. Nathan’s quick wit and knack for finding himself in ridiculous adventures would fit perfectly in a LEGO-themed series.
Already a behemoth in the gaming world, the God of War series is another strong candidate. Kratos has evolved impressively from his 2005 debut, and the extensive lore offers ample opportunities for a LEGO-style retelling. Whether incorporating the wise-cracking Mimir from the Norse era or weaving in characters like Zeus from the Greek mythology, a LEGO version could merge both realms in a comically entertaining saga filled with mythical creatures and humor.
Then there’s Jak and Daxter, a series that’s been around but lying quietly in the back. Although die-hard fans would prefer seeing a new installment or a reboot, the unique world-building in Jak and Daxter could be fun to reimagine in LEGO form. Although silent, Jak’s dynamic with the chatty Daxter could balance the storytelling well, a chemistry already proven in the original games. Despite taking a backseat compared to other titles, Jak and Daxter hold a place in the hearts of many.
Finally, Ratchet & Clank, a franchise bursting with color and action, is tailor-made for a LEGO transformation. These Sony icons, known for their exciting adventures, offer an extensive library of games for LEGO to draw inspiration from. Encompassing numerous installments, this lively duo promises a wealth of material for a LEGO endeavor.
Despite LEGO Horizon Adventures not hitting its mark, it offered a novel way to breathe new life into Sony properties. Horizon, with its more serious tone, might not have been the perfect fit for LEGO’s playful approach. Yet, there’s no shortage of Sony franchises deserving the LEGO treatment in the future.
