Following some intriguing hints, Activision officially announced the remastering of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 on Tuesday, signaling the return of these two classic entries for today’s gaming platforms.
Iron Galaxy Studios, who you might recognize as the developers behind the PC version of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, is leading the development effort for this project.
Fans will be thrilled to know the game retains its beloved soundtrack, featuring artists like CKY and Gang Starr, while sprinkling in new, yet-to-be-unveiled tracks. Classic levels have received a fresh coat of paint, and there’s also a selection of new parks to explore.
A key feature setting this remake apart from its predecessor is full cross-play support. This means up to eight players can skate together, regardless of their chosen gaming console.
Get ready for its release on July 11, 2025, with pre-orders granting access to a Foundry level demo in June. Plus, if you’re eyeing the Digital Deluxe edition, you’ll be skating three days sooner on July 8. As a delightful bonus, this edition invites Doom Slayer and Revenant from Bethesda’s realm to join your skate team, complete with DOOM-themed music and five distinct skateboards sporting DOOM Eternal art.
The game will be available on various platforms, including Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows PC (through Steam, the Xbox PC app, and Battle.net), PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and the Nintendo Switch. For those purchasing on Xbox or Battle.net, the cross-buy feature ensures you can switch platforms without extra cost.
As an Xbox first-party release, the standard edition will also come to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on the first day.
Looking ahead to 2025, Xbox’s lineup continues to impress. Following the release of Obsidian Entertainment’s RPG Avowed, Compulsion Games’ Southern Gothic adventure, South of Midnight, will arrive in April. May will bring DOOM: The Dark Ages, creating an exciting first half of the year for Xbox enthusiasts.
Despite the postponement of Playground Games’ much-anticipated Fable to 2026, the latter half of the year still promises a rich selection of Xbox releases.
Obsidian Entertainment plans to debut The Outer Worlds 2, the anticipated sequel to their 2019 sci-fi RPG. Additionally, Xbox Game Studios will roll out Ninja Gaiden 4, an eagerly awaited collaboration between Team Ninja and PlatinumGames, in the fall.
With the addition of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 in July, that marks three solid Xbox games hitting the market in the latter part of 2025. Towerborne’s entry into Xbox Game Preview and another potential Call of Duty installment further enhance the lineup. There’s even speculation about a remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, though nothing is official yet.
Unswayed by gaps, Xbox consistently transitions from one release to the next, poised to carry this momentum into 2026 with another packed schedule.
Personally, while I didn’t grow up glued to Tony Hawk games like many have, I’m absolutely on board with this remake.
Skateboarding games are a rarity these days, so fitting this gem into Xbox’s 2025 offerings is a clever move. The DOOM crossover speaks directly to my interests, making the Digital Deluxe edition irresistible as I look forward to shredding with Doom Slayer to some heavy tunes.
Moreover, it’s well-timed with DOOM: The Dark Ages launching in May, keeping the franchise in the public eye just a few months apart.
I’m also pleased to see Activision branching out with projects beyond Call of Duty. There’s hope within the Xbox division that Activision will revive other franchises and create new IPs, even though this is a long-term process still in its early stages.
Back when it launched, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 quickly became the fastest-selling title in the series, moving over a million copies in its first two weeks. I’ll be keenly watching to see how this latest venture stacks up.
