Known for being a fantastic value, Xbox Game Pass often gets the spotlight, but let’s not forget about Sony’s impressive online subscription service. While PS Plus’s Basic tier offers a selection of monthly games, subscribers to the Extra and Premium levels gain access to the expansive Games Catalog, filled with great options for the PS4 and PS5. But wait, there’s more—Premium members also enjoy the Classics Catalog, which brings a nostalgic touch by letting you dive into a selection of PS1 and PS2 classics without any extra cost. This strategy appears to be paying off, boosting the company’s revenue as users make the leap to more advanced tiers.
PS Plus Sees 20% Revenue Increase This Quarter from Tier Upgrades
Sony recently released its third-quarter financial figures for the 2024 fiscal year, revealing a 20% year-over-year revenue boost. This surge is largely credited to players opting for higher service tiers such as the Extra and Premium options.
The official report states, "For PlayStation Plus, revenue in the quarter increased 20% year-on-year on a U.S. dollar basis, primarily due to an increase in average revenue per user (‘ARPU’) mainly due to a shift to higher tiers of service and the impact of price revisions."
Sony is really stepping up its game with what’s on offer through the PS Plus Games Catalog for Extra and Premium users. They recently dropped some exciting news during the State of Play event, revealing that the highly praised action title Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will hit the service on February 18. That date is going to be action-packed too, as they also announced that the intriguing narrative adventure game, Lost Records: Bloom & Rage, will debut on the same day. For those who cherish nostalgic gaming, the Classics Catalog will soon include Patapon 3, a beloved PSP game, exclusively for Premium members.
